Field LayoutThis page contains examples of what a properly marked soccer field looks like.
If
you have volunteered or have been "volunteered" to do field setup for
your child's team, then the on-line field layout calculator will enable
you to correctly measure, layout and paint your assigned field.
Normally,
the teams with the first match of the day will be responsible for painting the field
and setting up the goals and corner flags.
Note: All of our fields are initially setup by experienced region volunteers.
New volunteers are always welcome. Unless there has been extreme
weather and the lines are no longer visible, you should never have to
actually layout a field. If you are painting a field, paint the "blue"
lines shown in the image.

Step 1
 |
Square the field.Choose
a starting corner. Lay out a tape measure for the width of the field.
Lay out a second tape measure from the same starting point for the
length of the field. Using a third tape measure, measure the distance
from the 40 foot mark on the "length" tape measure to the 30 foot mark
on the "width" tape measure.
Adjust either the direction of the
"length" or "width" tape measure until the distance between the two
points is exactly 50 feet. When this is accomplished, the corner is a
right angle and square.
Repeat this check for each of the four corners. |
| Step 2 | Mark the Field. Using the field specifications shown below and the abbreviations shown in the diagram, mark the field. |
| Step 3 | Layout the the painting guide strings. Drive
large nails in the for all the markings displayed in the field
specification. Using the reels of string, run string around all sides
of the field, and between all the markings. There is enough string
available to string the entire field before painting. |
| Step 4 | Paint the Field. Using
a single color (white or blue), paint all the lines shown in blue in
the field specification diagram. Paint the corner arcs, penalty marks,
and the center mark. Paint a center circle using the desired radius.
Paint the penalty arcs using the same radius as the center circle. |
| Step 5 | Paint Optional Markings. Paint
the technical area lines using red paint. Paint a spectator line
located six feet from the touchline and extending from the top of one
penalty area to the top of the other penalty area. |
| Step 6 | Clean Up. Remove
all the strings and nails. Ensure all materials used to mark and paint
the field are accounted for and place them back in the Region shed. |
