What is AYSO EXTRA?

AYSO EXTRA is a program established by AYSO for children who possess the appropriate desire, ability, and skill and want to play soccer at a more competitive level. AYSO EXTRA is an attractive alternative to club soccer programs as it is often less expensive and maintains AYSO core principles including a minimum 50% play rule and positive coaching. What is AYSO ALLIANCE?

Much like EXTRA, Alliance is a tryout-based program for players who want to play in external (to AYSO) competitive gaming circuits as members of both AYSO and US Youth Soccer playing in the Coast Soccer League (CSL). The purpose of the AYSO ALLIANCE program is to support the AYSO player development pathway to the highest levels of play. It is an integral part of the AYSO Club program and potential progression to AYSO United.

Clarification:

EXTRA and ALLIANCE teams will be very similar:

• They will both be AYSO competitive teams formed after tryouts.
• They will both be managed by Region 47 and coached by volunteer coaches from Region 47.
• They will both embody the AYSO 6 Philosophies.
• The overall costs to play in ALLIANCE will be higher than EXTRA.
• The main difference is that EXTRA teams will compete in the EXTRA League (run by AYSO) against other EXTRA teams, whereas ALLIANCE teams will compete in a Club league (CSL) against non-AYSO club soccer teams.

Families in the EXTRA or ALLIANCE program volunteer just as they do in the regular Core program and "give back" to the Core program in a variety of ways including refereeing games, helping at registration, and providing tactical knowledge to Core program coaches.

COACH ELIGIBILITY

Benefits of Coaching an AYSO Extra or Alliance Team:

1.   Year-Round Play:  Coach your Extra team throughout the calendar year.  In addition to competing in the Fall season, Extra teams will continue training / competing in Spring season and summer tournaments as desired.

2.    Coach Mentoring:  Extra Coaches have access to coordinate practice-session plans with Professional Trainers.

3.    Everyone Plays:  All players are guaranteed to play 1/2 of the game.

4.    Positive Coaching:  All coaches must be certified and experienced, as well as positive, instructive and encouraging with the players.

5.    Well-Trained, Quality Referees:  Referee teams are mindful of player safety and love of the game.

6.    Committed Players: Players are selected through a tryout process to ensure that the skill and level of commitment is at a competitive level.

REQUIRED COACHING CERTIFICATIONS: Clear Background check, Safe Haven, CDC Concussion, Division Specific Coaching Certification (one additional level) and Regional Referee Certification.
